Korouoma canyon is located in southern Lapland, close to town of Posio. The area’s landscape is exceptionally rugged and grand. It is known for the highest ice falls in the country, but also for its flora and fauna – and the silence.
Ice climbing was sweet as ever. This winter the ice was thick and solid. Did the first climbs in December, the very last one in April.
It is not rare to get to see the noble Golden Eagle circling above the tall and narrow spruces typical for Korouoma.
The aim of this nature reserve is to protect species of old-growth forests, of herb-rich forests and of cliffs.
The Korouoma area offers a multitude of possibilities for climbing, hiking, nature watching and fishing as well as learning about the culture of the area in context to nature.
I wrote online columns for Image.fi about Korouoma, also about Ruka, an attractive ski resort close by.
