Getting beaten back twice by hailstones and fierce winds from the Arctic Sea in Norway. Then, later, receiving a sweet though strenuous reward in the Alps: Frendo Spur, Küffner Ridge and the north-face of La Tour Ronde among the most enjoyable climbs.
A car journey with some good friends across the continent was an experience to cherish, too.
