Rehearsing glacier skills, enjoying scenic treks

A one week glacier travel course in northern Sweden, organised by the Alpine club of Finland, Suomen Alppikerho (SAKE).

I was able to rehearse some essential skills in mountain environment: glacier travel, crevasse rescue and ice climbing.

Course's main instructor was Mr Anders Bergwall of Sweden, an experienced UIAGM mountain guide.

Roughly a 30 km trek from Nikkaluokta to the foot of Isfallsglaciäret ("the icefall glacier"), where the course took place, was a scenic one.

Extremely strong winds around Kebnekaise, the highest point of Sweden, where very impressive and made me worry if my tent was able to handle the gusts or not. Swedish record wind speed was measured here: 81 m/s.

I produced a feature article incl. photos about mountain guides for Bisnes.fi magazine.
